Rossi Flash .21

Postby ShepherdRacer11 » September 13th, 2011, 1:51 pm

Okay, so I'm running a Rossi Flash .21 in my '09 Shepherd V8. It's not too bad as far as top end but it seems like there should still be more to it. I'm not satisfied with how it's performing overall. The piston and con-rod were replaced last year. So far this year it's only had about a gallon of fuel pushed through it. It comes in after a 5 minute qualified at around 230 F and has maybe 1/8 of a tank of fuel. I need to get more punch on the low end and a little more umph on the high side.

Does anyone have suggestions on what I can do to get more out of it?

Thanks

Make sure the clutch is adjusted properly. There is a good chance its not just the motor tune. Leaning out the buttom end would help with the low end punch.

As far as the "Umph" you would like on the high side I am not sure what you are asking? If your concerned with how fast it winds out in second gear you could adjust your two-speed to shift later allowing more wind out of 1st gear a little longer.

Clutch seems to be good. What setting should I be using, do you have a guide, or is there a guide somewhere?

Yes, need more push when maxing out RPM's. I guess I just need to get my pit guy to help watch the car down the back straight to see where it's shifting, I'm too busy trying not to crash and burn. From there we can adjust the clutch/shift points.

Thanks

The guide would be the manual for what ever car you have or whatever cars clutch you are using. I am using a Mugen Clutch with my Shepherd. Your name implies you are also running shepherd. Do you have the Stock Clutch? or a different clutch?

Adding to what Binks said, The type of clutch shoe you have also has an effect. Depending on the shoe you could be experiencing more slip and/or faster wear. Mugen yellow is probably the most common shoe run today. What do you currently have?

Good Point, Yellow clucth shoe is definitely the way to go. Wears a little slower than others and Connects great.

Thanks guys for the information. I'm running the stock Shepherd clutch setup right now. I believe my clutch shoe is black. I've heard of some guys moving away from the 4 shoe clutch and moving to a single shoe, have you heard of this or am I pulling this crap out of thin air?

Do you mean a 4 weight system vs a three weight system? I believe all shoes are a single piece. I have never heard of a 4 piece shoe. If infact you mean the weights its all preference in my opinion. I ran the Shepherd clutch but switched to the 3 weight mugen clutch because I could get mor help with the set up.

Ahhh, yes, weights, not the shoe. But am I wrong in thinking that there was a one piece weight that some people were using?

You are wrong to think that. The whole purpose of a weight is to be slide up the flywheel pushing the clutch shoe plate out into the clutch. If it were one piece it physically could not push out, as it would be one ridgid piece. The minimum in any clutch system like those or RC is a 2 piece weight system.
